FAQ
Questions, answered.
Asphalt, chip seal, weather, soil and scheduling around Albuquerque.
What is the difference between asphalt paving and chip seal?
Asphalt paving is hot-mix asphalt laid and rolled into a smooth, dense black surface. Chip seal is a sprayed layer of asphalt emulsion covered with crushed stone and rolled in. Chip seal usually costs less and suits long rural drives and ranch roads; asphalt is smoother and better for tight turns and daily traffic.
Do you give free written estimates?
Yes. We come out, look at the site, measure, check drainage and the ground underneath, and give you a written number. There is no charge and no pressure to book.
What areas do you cover?
Albuquerque and roughly 60 miles around it: Rio Rancho, Corrales, Los Ranchos, Bernalillo, Placitas, the East Mountains including Tijeras, Edgewood and Moriarty, and Valencia County including Los Lunas, Bosque Farms, Peralta and Belen.
How does the $1,000 off offer work?
$1,000 off any paving project. Minimum project size applies. Mention this offer when booking your free estimate.
When is paving season around Albuquerque?
Hot-mix paving and chip seal both need warm weather, so most work happens from spring into fall. You can call for an estimate any time and we will book your job for the right conditions.
How do you deal with monsoon storms?
By grading for drainage before we pave. Every surface gets a crown or a pitch so water runs off it. During the monsoon we watch the forecast and schedule around storms, especially for chip seal and sealcoat, which need dry weather to set.
My lot is sandy, or full of caliche. Does that matter?
Yes. Loose sand needs a compacted aggregate base so the surface does not settle. Caliche close to the surface needs to be cut to grade so the asphalt is an even thickness. We check the ground on the site visit and build the base to match.
How long before I can drive on new asphalt?
You can walk on it the next day. Most cars can park on it after two to three days. In hot weather, avoid turning the steering wheel while the car is standing still for the first few weeks.
How often should asphalt be sealcoated here?
Every few years, or as soon as the surface starts to fade from black to gray. The sun at this elevation dries out asphalt quickly, and sealing it is the cheapest way to make it last.
Can you chip seal over my gravel driveway?
Usually, yes. We grade and compact the existing gravel, add base where it is thin or soft, shape it to shed water and then chip seal it.
Do you work on commercial properties?
Yes. Parking lots, access drives, truck yards, HOA roads and church and retail lots, plus striping, repairs and sealcoating for existing pavement.
